The brass and pewter hardware of original pieces show the unmistakable signs of hand-craftsmanship. When antique hardware is not available, I have excellent sources that are able to supply hardware that is made in the same manner as the originals. Some reproduction brasses are either too thin and flimsy, or excessively thick and heavy. Originals were usually about one sixteenth of an inch thick, and show a crispness in the details. I finish the hardware in accordance with client specifications. However, brasses on earlier, less formal pieces should show an aged patina. French Pewter can be darkened and sealed or left to age/rust naturally.
